Stirrup getting stuck on foot

I am having a nightmare with my right stirrup at the moment.

I have a normal metal stirrup iron but when i canter, due to Chicos immense bounciness, i keep ending up with the iron stuck on my boot.

It sort of wedges itself between my high instep and my sole and i cant get it free unless i stop and pull it off myself.

I was wondering if bent leg irons would be better, are they less likely to get stuck?

Thanks

(ps - this happens with nearly all my pairs of riding boots so it's not a specific shoe)

Get a pair of those toe cages, this happened to my mum once and she fell off, almost broke her foot, now she won't canter without them, I'd really reccomend you get some :)

that sounds like a good idea thanks :)

I have some weakness in my right leg so with Chico being so bouncy in canter i just dont have the strength to keep my heel down and foot securely where it should be in the stirrup.

I like the sound of those toe cages, would mean i could concentrate on the canter instead of if my foot is stuck or not!

I had this problem too. I bought some new stirrups which had a higher arch over the instep & they worked a treat. Best thing to do is wear your boots when you buy the stirrups and try putting your foot in and out to check for size.

Sounds like your irons are too small. Buy a bigger pair, preferably ones that are also safety stirrups if you are prone to your foot going right through.

Do not just put cages on these stirrups, you could still get caught in a fall if the irons are too small.
