Hi, just a quick question to ask what the average adult length of stirrup leathers are?

Im around 5ft 6 and my stirrups are on the last hole of my leathers. I want to start doing some more jumping with my horse but i need to put a twist in them if i want my stirrups at jumping length

I cant remeber what size the last pair i bought were (though obviuosly too long and im sure my legs have shrunk over the last year

so thought id ask you lot what length stirrup leathers you have?

a long time ago i used to cut them off about 3 holes below what i needed, then it was explained to me that every so often you get the stitching re-done(for saftey)then the worn bit gets moved a bit too.
makes sense, used to wonder why they were so long.
duh

As a guide the standard lengths for stirrup leathers are
children 36"-48"
teens 48"-52"
ladies 54"
gents 56"-62"

If you need to put more holes in to the stirrup leathers a revolving pliers hole punch usually wont do it, they will just buckle, the proper tool is a number 22 oval punch, which is hit with a mallet, your local saddler will have one, and they should not charge more than a couple of pounds to put extra holes in.

thanks for your replies

I was thinking of getting a hole punch but they are quite thick so wasnt sure if I would be able to get through it

thanks Mrhsaddler- think they might be 56" so there probs more a gents size and too long for my little legs
