always just bought normal steel stirrups like the arch type.

I recently had RKTR and find :

a. hard to put my foot in stirrup on that side
b . not very supportive for my lower leg.

Stirrups have changed so much in the last 10 years.
So what would you advise I go for for general hacking sponsored rides pleasure rides.

Thanx

Whats RTKR?

I use Raddery Flex which I love as super shock absorbing but have a couple of long standing niggles that normal stirrups aggrevate.

They're not pretty but SO comfortable even after 6 plus hours in the saddle.

It's really personal, and I have not had a knee replacement, I just have stiff joints. But I found that switching to plastic stirrups (I use inexpensive Compositi ones) with endurance style cages on them made a huge difference. I don't have to keep repositioning my feet and the plastic is a better shock absorber than metal.

I'm 1 year post RTKR and find these the most comfortable. After my operation I couldn't turn my right foot to find the stirrup....had to bend down and twist leather by hand to put foot in with normal stirrups. Tried all the flex type stirrups but too much movement. In these the tread plate is very slightly angled, but fixed in place.
Tried lots of different types but these definitely work best for me.

Yes these are good! I would've called them "Icelandic stirrups" but whatever the name, having the 90 degree angle on the slot makes life a lot easier. They hang where they're supposed to be....I don't know why all stirrups aren't designed this way.

That's exactly what I find, only one time I could bend ankle so it would be right to put stirrup on, since then I cannot. This is helpful ty.

RKTR is Right Knee total replacement, went for full knee surgery in October so no riding for 3 months after and oh boy the pain and still recovering now but putting foot in stirrup is hard and have to bend down manually put it in.

I hack in Sprenger stirrups. I love them They are conventional shape for mounting (and in my case dismounting). Our RI long ago recomended that I use them to reduce wear and tear on my joints and she also advised me not to canter on two consecutive days.
I did once buy cheaper look-alike when i needed a larger size. Those had too much give in them and i gave them away. The Sprenger have a solidity.
They may encourage me in sloppy riding. If the mare is bounding along in canter and my foot slips forward into the stirrup I have always thought to myself that it doesnt matter so much, as the stirrup will release if I fall. None the less, my first reaction in a fall is to kick my feet clear of the stirrups.

Old post I know, but thankyou for the advise, I bought some of these stirrups last week and rode in them today first time and so much easier to get foot in stirrup now.
