Hi, Ive just bought a new saddle & wanting to look after it as much as I can. I was wondering is there anything that I can put on my leathers to stop the saddle from getting rub marks on it. Ive seen alot of saddles that have these marks so wanted to try & prevent it from happening. I know my leg should be stable & therefore not make marks. But my horse is a youngster & can have a few wobbly moments. sorry hope this post makes sense. Thanks

If you clean your saddle regularly, it won't show the rub marks. My lower leg is pretty flappy, but my Black Country saddle doesnt have a mark on it, because i clean it(and my leathers) regularly.

If you keep black leather clean you will never see the stirrup leather marks, I have a 7 year old saddle and it polishes up as if no one has ever sat in it. Brown leather will mark no matter what you do, the rubbing causes the leather to become darker, it's unavoidable.

I believe dressage leathers are supposed to minimise rubbing as there is less under the leg but I'm not convinced.

Always make sure that you use leather leathers on leather saddles, and synthetic leathers on synthetic saddles. Not doing this is the biggest cause of rubbing.
