Need some reviews and opinions on stirrups. Fancy treating myself so anything up to £150. What would you buy and why? Currently have Sprengers (about 8 years old now which i inherited so not bought for a purpose such as bad knees etc) and fancy something different. Certainly want something with more grip. To be used all the time competing and at home hacking.

What are your recommendations.

For the quality of freejumps compared to other stirrups I'd say its worth spending the extra and buying them. They are perfect- I won't ride in anything else! Amazing grip and sit your feet in the best position. They are so comfortable to ride in and obviously the safety aspect of them is great too!

Agreed. I love mine, my only regret is not buying them sooner.

I'd agree with this. I'm currently saving up for a black pair so can use them for dressage too.

My faves are my Sprenger Bow Balance stirrups. I love them so much I have two pairs - one for each saddle.

I find it difficult to ride in non-flexible stirrups these days, and was getting numb feet after just an hours hacking while I was on holiday a couple of weeks ago.

Agree with this. Wouldn't use anything else now.

Freejumps get my vote.

I have them on both of my jumping saddles and have noticed a big difference in my ankles since swapping over from the Sprenger Bow Balance.

Love the look of the Jins and the freejumps seem really popular - can you use them with just normal stirrup leathers? Does anyone know where they are best value to get either, the freejumps in particular seem way over my budget £200+ but i may be looking in the wrong place.

Yes! Don't waste your money on the freejump leathers- I did, they are garbage! I think I paid £215 and I got mine from Buckaroo saddlery

I paid £190 for mine with a discount code but I don't think it's active anymore. Freejump leathers are rubbish and the D-ring on them scratched my saddle :(.

I would have said Sprengers until l rode in generic lightweight Shires composite ones the other week.

I have no idea how they work but my feet have never felt so secure (is that the right word?) so I'd suggest perhaps a more expensive version.

I've just got a pair of the Shadow Horse shock absorbing ones and love them. They look heavy but aren't, and the treads have little pins in them for grip. I had them swapped for treads without pins as I'm not very heavy, and still feel very secure in them. They are £145, and the best thing about them is that my repaired knee doesn't hurt after riding.

I've got sprenger and JW air stirrups which are a similar idea. I rather like the cheese grater tread on the JW ones and they are significantly cheaper. The foot plate on the sprengers is wider but I don't feel it makes much difference either way.

I have a pair of Shires Reflex Compositi stirrups and they are absolutely amazing. Your feet (Well, mine at least) don't move from them, they are easy to retrieve on the very rare occasion that you lose them and they put you in a great position. Well worth £25 imo.
