Stirrups!

Hi everyone!

I’m debating about jumping on the stirrup bandwagon…

I’ve recently seen quite a scary video where a rider was dragged over jumps as they had their foot stuck in their stirrup and I’ve also heard of people who have been left with severe injuries from this happening to them.
I’m really not wanting to spend hundreds on them but there doesn’t seem to be any ‘cheap’ options for quick release/ safety stirrups.
I was looking at the Avacallo alupro ones but I don’t think they market them as safety ones now as they only open laterally and will only help with certain types of falls? And I’ve heard of them ripping boots!

I really don’t want to pay out for Flexons as it just seems so much money for stirrups! Has anyone got any ‘cheaper’ recommendations please?
Thanks!

Is there anyone you know who has a pair of safety stirrups that would let you try a pair before you shell out for a new pair?

they are expensive so I’m sure there will be a hire company out there that will offer them on a trial basis in exchange for a return or a new pair if you like them?

Have you looked on eBay/Facebook market place?

I am also looking for safety stirrups, but I managed to find my jins (which I love so much, just not as safe as a side release) on eBay for 1/3 of the retail price. Hardly been used. So they are out there!

I wouldn’t choose cheap over safety in this instance, I’d be worried about the release mechanism.
