Stitches 5 days in

I stupidly let our dog have his collar off for an hour or so while we were sat with him tonight. He has stitches in his tummy, operation done Monday.
My lab just got and punctured the collar (blow up one)
Dog will be crated over night but obviously the wo t stop him chewing/licking. He’s supposed to wear it til Wednesday.
Am I ok to leave him? Stitches have been checked and all looking good. We do have a cone if need be but he was quite distressed in it

I wouldn't leave him with nothing on. T/shrirt and shorts may be an option you could cobble together?

As Susie says, use a t shirt to cover it. Or if you can find someone who could lend you a medical t shirt that would be best.

I hope he's got through the night OK. We have learned over the years to keep a back up method of protecting stitches. Often a t-shirt is the first line of defence with a donut as the back up.

Medical t shirts much nicer than cones as well, I have a range of sizes.. and different cones… and all barrier methods. But that’s no help to you. Hope you sorted something.

Yes I found Cecil’s old recovery suit that I bought years ago and forgot I still had. He’s so little it fitted fine.
It’s unlike Bertie to actually chew and damage something, typically it had to be something important.

We did try a suit on him at first but I think he was too sore in the area to handle it, we actually had to cut it off with scissors (completely ruined) as he was freaking out when we tried to remove it. Fine this time though so he’s obviously much happier.
I think I will order another blow up cone just to have incase. He was so much better in that than the plastic thing.

I did look at those also but decided to stick with the donut type as he can eat and drink easier and almost uses it as a pillow. It looks comfortable when he sleeps.

No he absolutely hates it and has hated life this week. It’s been fairly tough going!
Today is the first day he’s seemed more himself.
