Stock or tie?

I got a grey/black tweed show jacket today, and have no idea what to wear with it, a stock or a tie? I was thinking a tie, but what colour should it be? I was thinking burgundy maybe? Any help appreciated

over 16? Then stock.

under 16? Then tie.

I think burgundy or dark green/blue. Dark shades of normal colours I think.

And would I get away with black leather jodphur boots instead of brown?

if it's just local then yes. But county and above, brown are ideal.

Is it for doing showing? Stocks are not seen at all in showing, except in evening performances, so I'd say wear a tie! I think burgundy would look good with it

Lands is correct. You NEVER wear a stock with a tweed when showing. Only out hunting for some reason. Definitely a tie and burgundy sounds good!

the knot in the stock is to protect windpipe if you fall but for showing i would always say tie
equiette for hunting
start with tie with tweed then, oct, on goes coloured stock with tweed, then for opening meet white stock with plain hunting coat, thats the equiette down our way

yeah

i think in BE they ask you not to wear pre-tie one for safety reasons as they don't offer any protect to windpipe. Plus it's my fav job at yard, tying people's stocks. Have them lined up on saturday, it's gr8! as each one lets out a little yep as i tighten stock

Tying a stock....easy peasy. Ditch those card instructions....all you need to do is knot it twice, pull it about a bit and poke a pin through.
