STOCK or TIE !?

This gets into murky waters here. If you are in ratcatcher then you can either way a collar and tie or a coloured stock (hunting tie) and it is personal preference. Some say they don't like to see gentlemen wearing a stock.

If your hunt has opened and you are old enough to wear a black coat, then wear a white hunting stock. If you are under 18 or wearing tweed then stick with either a collar and tie or coloured stock. If you are Pony Club member (apologies can't work out how old you are) then wear a Pony Club tie.

I seem to remember there was a date in October when traditionalists switched from collar and tie to a stock, but I can't think who wrote the post, possible Eagle_Day.

I always wear a stock as I think it looks more feminine (although I do ride Side saddle!). I'm afraid I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to stocks though, and I do think that a tied stock looks far better than a pretied stock! Its definately worth learning how to do it properly.

oh thankyou!!! that helped alot :) i was just worried that I was wrong to be in a tie lol , im 13 years old and a PC member :) thanks again x

You wont be wrong whatever you wear as long as you do the best you can with what you have got. Hunting is about.... Hunting. It is not a fashion parade.I do hope you have a great time . I am realy envious of you with so much to experiencefor new!

What a relief to read that. There's a quote which goes along the lines of 'Happy are those who hunt to please themselves, not to astonish others', which given all the guff written on this forum recently by self-appointed experts, is important always to bear in mind.

And, as Mike says, you have so much to look forward too. The older kids out with us at our Opening Meet today were riding close to the front of the field and had a fantastic time.
