Hiya

Took my 5yo to SL at the weekend, neven been before, and very impressed by the facilities and the organisation

He was a good boy! Did a 35 Dr, which was tense at the beginning but got better throughout. He then SJed clear, and i was so thrilled with him, he kept a nice rythm all the way and didnt touch a pole.
XC was then the most beefy course he has done, but he was very good and popped round happily clear with some time. Lots of pats for the boy! I always get nervous because i think the jumps look big, but then in the pictures they look piddiliy

Any way what i wanted to ask is what do i need to work on from looking at the photos, they are quiet small pictures, but do any major faults stick out??!!!! I now have the winter to work hard

Arghh - totally forgot you were going, we had early times, though it looks like you were earlier than us. Which section were you in? Will was in A and we were delighted as he came 8th!!
It was a super event as al;ways and we were really pleased with the going - it was perfect wasn't it. Bet you'll be back now... pics look super btw.

Hey Luce, glad you had a good time

I think your pony is finding the height terribly easy! It looks in the photo's like he doesn't make much effort over the fences, until you get to one that he needs to think about, in this case the water, he makes more of an effort over that!

I think i'd spend the winter working on his technique over a fence, getting him a bit sharper and snappy with his front legs and jumping things that really make him think.

Well done though, you obviously had a fab time and you both look great

Nice pics... sounds like you had a fab day... well done.
Agreed that your horse looks like this is all too easy! Would recommend lots & lots of gymnastic jumping...get him to snap up a bit more. I am sure if the fences were raised he would learn this. It's nice in a grid... that if the rider is a bit nervous about jumping bigger jumps... then arrange the grid so that each jump is progressively bigger. That way you can be sure your horse is in the correct take off point at all times, he is on a flow & you don't have to worry about setting him up & fiddling. ( you may be able to tell I speak from experience!!)
I find it very sacry to jump stand alone 'big' jumps... but put a large spread at the end of a grid and I'm fine!!!
Good luck... enjoy your winter work! We always love our winter re-grouping time.
Your boy looks super.

yes i agree with you, he does rather look like he cant be bothered, he needs to jump higher and i need to get some more confidence over bigger fences

hopefully we'll get there, i agree on the whole grid thing, he hasnt ever done any proper grid work as our school is too small, but i think over the winter we were going to look into hireing a bigger school. do you think fences with /\ poles would help?
siennamum- i was section C, we didnt stay for the results and i cant see them online so dont know how we did
