stocky cob weight carrier just for hacking no jumping ,galloping cantering just walking really for nervous novice walking out on hacks can safley easily carry 15-16 stone anyone ? feedback welcome
People are so "funny" about this sort of thing, I think 15 stone should be your absolute maximum and WALK ONLY. Remember that novice riders often sit like a sack of potatoes which doesn't exactly make them comfy for the horse to carry about...
At RDA we have several cobs of this type (all gorgeous ), and they have recently been "max weighted" again.
You have to take into account the weight of tack, don't forget - which can be very heavy unless you go synthetic ( which is what I'd suggest). We also have to bear in mind that the riders will be of novice level a lot of the time. Mainly doing walking and some trotting.
All the ponies maximum rider weights came out at 12 - 13 stone.
I think i would say 15/16 stone is too much, i currently have a 14hh Highland pony and would only really want maximum of 12/13 stone (but that would allow to do all activites and tack etx).
