Hi, am a member, We have had our third lot of electric fencing equipment stolen in the last 12 months. First someone took 400meters of ape which we had rolled up ready to move the next day, 2nd this summer someone stole a tractor battery and solar pannel out of the same field and finally some kind moron has taken a caravan battery and and energiser. The police are not even remotely interested despite the value of what was stolen.
What makes it so annoying is that they have been in the field with our horses, who are all very friendly and could easily be taken next time and the police just don't care.

Sorry to heart that you've had fencing, battery & energiser stolen, you aren't the only one to have these items stolen. I had my energiser stolen a couple of months ago.

I can understand you being angry, but be angry with the people that stole them, not the Police. What do you expect the police to do? They will act on any information they get but they can't sit in your field just incase they come back.

Did you have any security on your energiser. Was it marked with identification? was it in a locked steel box secured to the floor?..... or was it sitting on the ground, in the open, in a field? If it was the later & I expect it was, like mine was when I had mine stolen, you have to make things more secure & alot more difficult to steal. I have secured my replacement as well as I can now.....hopefully it will be safe.

Ok. Next time you get an energiser cover it in paint, plus postcode etc. Make it so identifiable it cant be sold on Ebay. Maybe engrave STOLEN on it and a contact no. on it. These people have you marked and know you will replace it so make it as difficult as you can to sell it on. Make it Unsaleable. Then, even if they nick the next one they probably wont come back for another.

The energiser was in a pile of tyres and chained togerther, we have kept them like this for years and never had any problems with theft. The police do have their suspicions as to who it is, but are after them for bigger things. It has all happened since these paticular people put a large number of horses nearby, not on the same farm though.
I am thinking of moving my pony, due to a number of factors not just the thefts.

I advise anyone who buys an energiser from the firm i work for, to scratch their post code in the outer case at least!! Unfortunately, the market in stolen tack and equipment, only exists because some people are happy to buy "knocked off kit" or stuff which is so cheap that it has to be stolen. The other thing to do, is if you mark your energiser and it is stolen. Ring the manufacturer or anyone who services fencers and give them the details. I have a book at work, full of s/no and address details from units reported stolen to me. Several of which have turned up at a later date. Also applies to horse clippers, which are also a target for thieves.
