Thieving scumbags have taken 3 battery energisers (one of them mine, an Electric Shepherd) plus posts and tape from the Prudhoe area. My energiser was slightly faulty - the connecting cables had been chewed by rabbits - so I hope they get a shock.
WHY?????

Beats me! We had an energiser taken once too, while the ponies where in the field! Luckily it was only splitting a field but they could've dies if they had got to the grass!! Where they being used on the fence at the time? It also worried me that they had been in the field with my ponies.

This was in West Yorkshire about 2 years ago so I doubt it was connected, could be though.

Sorry to hear that, fences and units are so vunerable! Have a look on Ebay as I recently bought 600m of tape for about £20 and the posts were cheap too with a single delivery charge. Be careful when you replace the units as it is likely they will come back knowing you have to get a new one.

I scratched my postcode into mine but that won't stop them if they are determined. You could try putting the unit into a locked box if you have someone handy about?

We put a big plastic tub over ours with a massive chain through the handle hole and then round a wooden post, I know if they are determined they will cut the chain but hopefully they wont be that prepared.....we have moved fields now and it is (touch wood) much safer.

they go to any level to get stuff
we also had a 35 year old mare that wasnt in the best of condition her owner brought her a new heavyweight rug they went out and took it straight of her back when it was pissing hard with rain it made me fill sick to the stomach that someone could do this to a old mare

I don't think they really care about the animals, they are just low life scum, they probably don't even care about their own families!

Hmm, it's a problem. All three energisers were in use - two of them keeping laminitis-prone animals in starvation paddocks. We are really reluctant to replace them, but they can't stay in 24/7. Basically they will just come back and steal the new energisers as they know exactly where to go. I don't have much faith in the locked box/chain option as they will just take the box and cut through the chain. Am trying to persuade YO to go with mains electric fencing - at least then they can't take the energisers.

The police actually came out last night, and then spent their time asking us where the post holes were (obviously hard to spot) - as if they didn't believe the fences even existed!
