Pleased to say my friend had a call from the Police yesterday to say her stolen trailer had been seized in the port at Holyhead. Man was held in custody, let's hope he gets the book thrown at him. Looks as though it would have ended up in Ireland had it not been spotted.

The guys at the yard who had some carts stolen had a funny feeling that all of the gear stolen in yorks would be heading that way......apparently exactly the same thing happened about 10 years ago...

Great, I hope it's the same bast**d who stole our Ifor Williams some years back from W Yorks area.
We were told the most likely place was straight to Ireland and I rang Stranraer, but they said they couldn't do anything despite me telling them it had very distinctive holes drilled for a sideways partition for ponies.
When I found ours had gone in the middle of the day between a 15 min window from right outside our office block and with a hitch lock on I grabbed a huge lump hammer and toured the surrounding streets in the hope of finding them..
I hope someone with a hammer finds this chap one day.

Nice to know the system is working well , but again and I know I bang on about this but it's important. These are not often horse people looking for your trailer and a broken light here or a hoof shaped kick mark mean nothing to them but a postcode or serial number are easily searchable on the databases and mean you stand a much greater chance of a happy ending for you and a potential prosecution for those responsible for your misery.

So please do yourself and the authorities a favour and write down your trailer's serial number and if it doesn't have one postcode it preferably on the a frame near the tow bar, where people look for the serial number.

Hi all just to confirm it wasn't the datatag that resulted in the trailers recovery but the fact that my friend had asked her reg plate to be put on the stolen vehicle register. It was the number plate on the rear of the trailer that alerted the Police. My friend had been warned she may be stopped in her Landy whilst the reg plate was on the stolen records but she didn't mind that. If anyone else has a trailer stolen it may be worth doing the same. The insurance company still haven't decided how the trailer will be returned to her. Seems the trailers don't usually show back up so there's no procedure in place!!!!!!

When ours was stolen the first thing the thieves did was rip the numberplate off of the back of it. That was all that was left the following morning, a broken plate. Trailer was long gone. And the first thing NFU said when we reported it was that it was probably already on the ferry to Ireland...

Glad to hear some checks are being done at the ports. But agree you need to make your trailer as visible and different as you possibly can. Mind you ours had our postcode all over it, on the roof in vinyl letters etc and it's never been traced.

It is great news to hear about one finally being recovered though. Let's hope that the tide starts to turn.
