Has anybody every reported a passport stolen? what happens? how can u be sure that the holder of the passport will

a) never use it in a dishonest way

b) be sure they would not try in a underhand way to reclaim the horse.

does the horse get a new passport number etc?

(genuine reason for asking im not up to anything iffy lol)

ive dropped you a pm M, as i thought it may make more sence that way.

theres already a threat to reclaime horse even thought the person that has the passport does not and never has owned the horse.

I presume you still have the horse? How did it get stolen. Do you know who has it? Maybe a daft question but had a similar issue with Donkeys that were sent to breeder to be covered. But the breeder in question tried to impound them claiming they were a welfair case (they were not) We had to get the Police involved and took our Donkeys back. We had to get the local Equine Liason officer (ELO) from the police to go round to her house and insist that she gave them back. We got them in the end. I must also add that this so called breeder is also a non practicing vet..but thats another story. Try the local ELO as they can help in lots of horsey things and they tend to know a lot of horsey people too. Good Luck.

I take the horse was delivered/changed hands etc without the passport and then being told that it will be sent on, or being told that it has been lost rather than it acutally being stolen?

If so can you not contact the society that issued the passport on how to go about obtaining it?

I once lost my horses passport and when i rang up to enquire about getting a replacement I was told there was no problem at all, I simply had to had the horse officially "described" by a relevant authority. I since found it but was shocked to learn just how easy it was. I would imagine that having the passport and not the horse gave the holder no rights at all. This isn't in relation to the nice grey that you rescued by chance?

I've just gone back through your previous posts to make sense of your situtation which i think i grasp a bit now. What i dont understand is why the person holding the passport has it? Am i right in thinking they never owned the horse? I thought passports werent proof of ownership but i see your point, did you get any kind of receipt when you got the horse in question? That has more legal standing.

As a side-line I'm very interested in your story as you dont live very far from me and now you have got me thinking...............

So as someone who has only just got around to having their horses passport changed after 2 years of ownership and the previous owner not having actually got the passport changed to their name I can tell you what happened in my case.

The passport issuing authority wrote to the person who actually had the passport registered to them (this was 2 owners ago) and they sold the horse 3 years ago as they did not recognise the signature on the passport and obviously due to changes of owner not being notified. The passport issuing authority gave the person registered as the owner on the passport 2 weeks to reply.

So if the passport is in your name and someone tries to get it changed to them then the issuing athority will not do this without contacting you if your signature does not match that on the passport or the person who it is registered to.

Does NEDs have the ability to report stolen passports on there as the issuing office will surely check that. I would say though your best bet is to contact the issuing office and let them know the situation then if someone does try to get the passport changed or used they would hopefully catch it.

Hopefully some of the above makes sense but it is Friday afternoon after a long week

bex i have pmd you.

i do have a reciept and witnesses to me handing over the money.

im not to fussed about the ins and out of the whole thing, but I do have concerns about a horses passport with well known names on it floating about!

It is the owner before the owner i bought the horse from that has their name on the passport, i dont think there would be any issue in them signing the new ownership form for me. (i made sure that i went and got who he was registered with passport number etc, so i have all the details aswell.)

the horse is moving this month at some point aswell so id again.. much rather have the passport.

yes, and its not the old owner giving me the hassle.
