Friday 06th Nov 09 between 5.30pm and 10.30pm my tack shed was broken into. This was in East Hagbourn, Nr Didcot, Oxfordshire. Police and horsewatch have been informed. A white ford transit van was spotted in field opposite looking into my field. They took 5 saddles, 6 bridles including inhand ones, 3/4 bags of horse food, my grooming kit, 3 headcollars and leadropes, a 2 stroke blue and black petrol generator. Please be careful and spread the word. Thanks

That is really interesting - I live in Upper Basildon - so not that far from you. I was in my yard behind my house about 7.30pm on Friday 6th - and a large white transit van was parked outside my gates (not the small transit, a big van). I thought it looked suspicious. I went and asked the person inside the van if he was lost, and he said no - he drove off 10 minutes later. He was in his 40s or 50s, slightly rough looking (unshaven) with a black dog - labrador type - sitting on the passenger seat. I did notify the police as I thought he looked so suspicious - and they rang to say that they had driven around the village but didnt spot him - and he didnt reappear..wonder if he then went on to you?

Thanks for the heads up. After being broken into earlier this year and the thieves making off with over £6k of tack, we all have to take ours home with us now

Tanta, that is interesting, i dont suppose you got a vehicle reg number? i have one from a vehicle that has been reported as the same but seen earlier in the week in East Hagbourne checking out other horse fields/yards. Its a difficult to post if they are innocent if you know what i mean.

Hi Weezy, your case sounds similar to mine, took all leather work, headcollars, grooming kit, food and a generator but left boots for both horse and rider, rugs, mucking out equipment, hats and even a golf club set. They used a wheelbarrow to move from tack shed to vehicle which had been driven into field. Yes the b*****ds broke the lock and drove in but when leaving they left gate wide open for all three of my horses to escape onto a main national speed limit road, i dread to think what i could have been facing but thankfully the horses saw sense and kept well back. Ive been notifed of a vehicle reg number which matches the same make and model which was spotted outside my field that eveing. This vehicle was seen earlier in the week in same area looking at other targets. This was again a white ford transit van, Y reg (i do have full reg) SWB, side panel door with 3 young lads/men in it. Do you have any other vehicle info? Police dont seem interested at the moment but ive gone to the local papers with this too. they just stated my crime report has been updated, great thanks, just what i wanted you to do!!

Sorry, I didnt get the reg number - when I went to talk to the man I kept my gate between him and me - and I just darent go out and peer at the reg number. I was planning to go and get in my car and drive past him and get it if he had been there any longer, but he then drove off. Can you PM me the reg number you have, and I'll get my neighbours to keep an eye out for it...?

We didn't see any reg numbers either

The police were not interested in our case, only after pushing and pushing did I manage to arrange for a Community Support Officer to come out

I found footprints, gloves they had worn, etc, no one was interested. I suppose there was nothing they could really do.

If you wouldn't mind, could you please PM me the full reg so I can write it on our boards and alert everyone to look out for it.
