At least two private yards I know of locally have been blitzed this last week in the Malpas area so please be on your guard.
At the last yard, this Monday morning, they forced the new bolts and took four very good saddles and let the dogs out who were completely traumatised by it all. They also took a huge - and I mean huge - sandstone trough which they had emptied out of plants. This trough had taken four men to move it originally to give you some idea of what transport they needed.

Two days before, some unknown men were seen on the victim's drive by a neighbour who was asked by them if they could go rabbiting on the land with their lurcher.
They were in a maroon estate car, not a 4 x 4, the driver was dark and gypsy looking (her words, not mine!) she thinks with a small 'tash. He was wearing a baseball cap in something like a Laura Ashley print, quite a small pattern, so quite distinctive! Other man was on mobile so she couldn't get a good look but he was bulky and wearing a hi-viz jacket and they had a black lurcher with white markings with them, possibly to give them more credibility. These might be totally innocent or they could have been checking things out, we don't know but just be on the lookout please. There is no way that sandstone trough would have fit in that car (it wasn't as big as a Volvo!)
The police of course haven't been yet even though they have been asked to preserve the crime scene as there are a couple of boot prints there!

Stone troughs are worth a fortune so it could well have been stolen to order. Might pay to look on Ebay too.

I used to have a pair of Jacatex jods - blast from the past!!

You are lucky that your local force are taking an interest. When our yard was burgled about 3 years ago there were perfect footprints but the police didn't even bother to come out to have a look.

The dark nights have already bought the thieving scum out good and proper reading the many yard theft threads on here.

It is so horrible thinking of these types of people snooping around the horses and yards.

Missed this, wish I had seen it sooner as local auction often has stone troughs etc (not suggesting they take in dodgy stuff of course). It amazes me how many troughs are taken, I have one in my yard that I want to move and can't for the life of me shift it! Thanks for the warning anyhow.
