Herts police have posted this morning that a trailer being towed was stopped early this morning as vehicle and trailer plates didnt match , near Stevenage, Herts.

Upon checks being made the trailer was discovered to have been stolen in the Southampton area and the male occupant was arrested.

Hurrah!! Hopefully that will help to stop future thefts and someone will get their Ifor 510 back.
Never protest if the police stop you and trailer for checks, it's only by doing that that the epidemic of trailer thefts will be addressed.

Well done Herts Police!!

Well I’m very pleased for the owner of the stolen trailer, hopefully it will be returned to them very soon and undamaged.

I had mine stolen and Cheshire Police did ****** all. Even though the travelling scutters had parked up their wagons and caravans a few miles away and that same night there were a spate of thefts in the area, they weren’t interested. Couldn’t raid their camp, it would infringe their human rights, apparently and they needed evidence in order to do so. How about going and looking for the evidence then by raiding their camp !!!! Just gave me a crime reference and told me to claim on my insurance. £3k of kit just taken and they didn’t care.

Stop checks are all very well but if they actually investigated crime when it was reported and showed some teeth with the criminal fraternity instead of sitting on their hands and dishing out crime numbers then maybe there would be less crime and in particular rural crime, which seems to go unnoticed. I honestly was made to feel that because I was reporting the theft of a horse trailer, that I must be rich and posh and therefore able to replace said trailer without much financial hardship.

That was 2 years ago and it still annoys me because I was never able to replace the trailer without stumping up a load of my savings. The insurance company were about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard as well, using depreciation as an excuse for not paying the market value. So I got robbed twice. B*****ds.

Sorry, rant over.

well done Herts police . Now this is a story to put a smile on your face. Nice to hear of recovery stories.

They should have followed it to where it was going! You all know what type of person was likely to be driving it away - what chance is there he'll ever come to court?

I have something more permanent in mind:-

Now, let's see you laugh that off!
This happened in the 80's someone had put postcode on the roof of the trailer and when it got stolen, police followed it and found 5 more trailers at the farm site. The crook had no idea they were following it.
why not spend £ 10 and decrease the chance of no return???

Great idea Leviathan despite mine being more fun! However I spent £2,000 on pukka Tracker gadgets only to have one machine with it go walkies so I asked the company to come out and track my others to prove they were working - and they couldn't find them IN MY YARD!!!

Couple with that, there is only ONE police car fitted with the gadget to pick up the signals - the thieves know all this so get a sucker to nick the item and drive it quickly to some woods and leave it for the battery to die or cut all the electrics.

You live and learn!

Postcoded..... I also find a sign saying. If this trailer is not been driven by MB53999 then please report it to the police as stolen.

Fine for us as the trailer is not borrowed by anyone else

slightly different but at a truck show a few years ago the police came round and did a spot check on caravans.
A family were given a couple of hours to empty theirs as they had unwittingly bought a stolen one.
Ive never seen hitch locks for trailers..are they available ?

Best is postcode, as from he air the fuzz can see that it is way out of its area, where as post code they cannot see the diving vehicles re from the air so would not ring bells at first. I would always do postcode , you can then give for postcode to fuzz, also your more often change your car than your house

hitchlocks did not stop them taking ours, some people take the wheel nuts off so if they move it it goes splat.

i also use tracker for my horsebox but have an isolator too

Sorry, but a hitch lock and a wheel clamp didn't stop them stealing mine either, from the tracks looks like they just dragged it.

A friend has cut her electric conncetion in half and added another connector, she therefore has a length of cable with a connector at each end which she takes home and without which you can't plug the lights in. The hope is the trailer would get pulled if no lights or indicators.

Another has had a spare number plate made up, which he leaves on the trailer when it's parked up and simple reads 'stolen'.

Would be great to have a register of stolen trailers again, there used to be a lady who ran a website and had local co-ordinators etc. but I think costs closed it down.
