Hi To cut a long story short I put a thread on last week about a cold backed horse that I was running out of ideas of what could be wrong with her. Yesterday she was scoped for stomach ulcers and I am very pleased thta the vet found 3!! So i am hoping that this will help to explain her behaviour and that the mounting roblem will subside oonce we have treated them. So she has a month on Gastroguard to hopefully heal the ulcers but I was hoping to hear from people who have had experience with ulcers and any comments on the mares routine. She is turned out all day in the summer and comes in at night with ablib hay or haylage, she has no hard feed in the summer. In the winter turn out can be limited but iget them out as much as possible when the field isnt too wet, and she has ab lib hay or haylage when stabled. Her winter feed is usually Alfa-A Oil, Top Spec Feed Balanced and Speedi Beet. unfortunately I am not in a possition to increase her grazing during the winter as the field owner does not let us put the horses out when the field is really wet. A friend has suggested feeding her Calligone, does anyone have any experience of this product or other supplement aimed at preventing ulcers? Thanks

Coligone is supposed to be very good, I am about to swap my horse onto it.
The important thing is to keep the supply of fibre pretty much constant, also always give her a handful of chaff/alfa-a before work - it will help soak up the stomach acids and prevent splashes.
Mine is a bit unique in that he doesn't do very well on grass, so he is on a starvation paddock with hay, he likes his stable a lot, so limited turn out is not a problem for him.
