so my boy has been stabled for the last few days due to the rain, so his feet are completely mud free atm. Today I picked out his feet and saw a stone bruise- maybe 1cm x 4cm on the hoof wall but now the part that touches the floor, purple, and right on the inside of his heel. He’s had a stone bruise on his sole before and he was hopping lame, but this time he couldn’t care less. I have tapped the bruise with the hoof pick and he had no sensitivity whatsoever.
He’s walking absolutely fine, heel first, equal strides etc and it’s clearly not new. He can’t be trotted up properly due to a lack of hard standing but He’s moving absolutely fine. I saddled him, and he happily went to the mounting block by himself, I hopped on and went for a quick stroll down the road and back to see how he felt. He’s absolutely fine, pushing from behind etc and he felt really good. this is the same horse who literally showed me his hoof when it was bruised the last time. He’s absolutely oblivious and I’m certain he’d tell me if something was wrong.
is it possible to have a stone bruise and not be in pain? It’s on the furthest point of the heel if that makes sense, and I’m not even sure it’s making full contact when walking. He’s in light work atm

My understanding is by time visible on sole pain has typically passed.
