A friend and I are travelling a horse from Somerset to Scotland next week up the M5 and M6, and we want to stop to unload and let the horse graze for half an hour every four hours.

Does anyone know of any equestrian centres just off the motorway network that I could contact to ask if we can unload and give a horse a leg stretch in a car park/graze on a verge? I think we would need to stop near the top of the M5, south of Birmingham before we join the M6, and then again around Penrith or Carlisle.

Massive thanks for any suggestions from any locals who might be able to help.

You could try Gracelands ( they have a website - gracelands equestrian centre - they are near Droitwich Spa.

They are 2 mins off the motorway (junction 5 of the M5) and an easy road to get to and from. Big car park, school etc.

Cripes getting quite close to the date, would it not be better to get Eric Gillies to take it, they have lairage points all up the country and self levelling floors and air con for the horse and would probably be cheaper too due to shared load?

I only say that as ours came up from home counties to Scotland a few years back, not as far as yours, and that was bad enough for them - would def get Gillies to do it if we did it again.

Hope you get sorted out....

Perfect! Thank you so much! I have just looked up the website and phoned - spoke to Trish. She was lovely and said of course we could stop there.

HHO rocks!

Thank you for replying. Horse is competing in an endurance event (re-routing from cancelled event in East Anglia and limited FEI qualifying events available) and so we have got to stable, transport to event, use tow car for crewing and then come home again, so we are stuck with doing it ourselves - yikes!
