Stop snow balling on feathers

My terrier has a long coat and fluffy legs (Sealyham) and with the snow he keeps getting huge tennis ball clumps of snow on his feathers until he gets to heavy to walk. Really want to prevent it as I keep having to stop and shake him out every 10 minutes! He is up at the yard with me all day, I do try and keep him within the barn but he prefers to be by my side. Anyone have any tips to stop him turning into a canine snow ball?

We put vaseline in our Newfys paws and up her feathers she gets bad snow balls and it does prevent them

I spray with Mane & Tail so snow just glides off.

Pig oil? If you put it on as you go out it's sunk in before you come back so the house/car isn't greasy.

I gave some to a friend who has a shaggy dog . He uses it all year round as it also helps with the picking up with sticks, leaves etc on the velcro fur!

I can report back with the results from snow after this weekend...

I use mane and tail on the Old English Sheepdog.

A Sealy with a hard coat should shake of the snow. If clipped or soft use a Caghoul.

Thanks, he has a lovely super soft coat, not quite what I anticipated! Will try the mane and tail first.

Yes I can ditto this re. upsetting tummies: my two stoopid loons love Pig Oil and if I leave it hanging around anywhere where they can get it, will gobble it up.

The first time they ever did it they both had mega upset tummies, poor dogs , I didn't know it was so bad for them - the whole place stunk and looked like a nuclear explosion had happened.

So never again!

I sprayed my cockers with cheap furniture polish (the same stuff I use on my horses' tails with to keep them tangle free) this morning before they went beating. Very glad to report that the snow slid off their legs and coats and they were much more comforTable than they were on Saturday when the snow balled all over then and I had to keep stopping them and sorting them out. So glad I read this post this morning.
