Stop telling me what to do with my own horses!!!!!

Having a rant today.....bad day!!

Basically I'm fed up with tittle tattlers telling me what I ought to be doing with my own horses whilst sitting there drinking MY tea and coffee at MY OWN yard!!!!

If I want to sit my horses in a field,bring them in daily for a fuss,groom,feed etc and then turn them out again because I have plenty of land for 24/7 turnout then I will do!!!! An OH that works away,a stroppy teenager and a 3 year old as well kinda knackers me out!!!

One's being productive.....she's just gone in foal. The oldie girl gets walked around with my son on every so often and my new big girl was semi feral when she arrived,so I'm not chancing riding her until my schools been built.

OOOHHH this drives me BONKERS! SO many people have lectured me about how I need to shoot my mare when, hello! She's grazing in MY field, as a companion for MY other horses, she doesn't wear shoes, doesn't get fed, can't go in a stable because she destroys them, and really costs me very little money! She's happy, healthy and my FRIEND, so why on earth is it so bad that she's in the field doing nothing but be loved and groomed to within an inch of her life?

People are poo.
 
oh ignore them - as my instructor told me when i had a little guilt trip last week (i am learnign to ride my duaghters horse - she has lost interest but i love him to want to keep him) - horses dont stand in their fields praying someone will come and hack them out everyday

If they have care, love and attention who cares really ????
 
last summer I just turned him away for 2 months just to be a horse as it seemed he just didn't enjoy beeing ridden.. I brought him in daily to groom him and grease his feet etc.. and then brought him food. I think it did him alot of good! He came back in the winter as a big fat calm teddy. I think it really helped him.
If you don't want to ride your horse you don't have to! Espcially as she is turned out 24/7 !
 
Oh dont start me off.I have had it will people telling others what to do with their own horse.If you did it too them they would soon say something grrrr.A so called friend was saying to me,why arent you riding Flash,why put your daughter on a horse you wont ride.Grrrr Truth is,last year this so called friend was riding him and he didnt really have brakes.She had me get on him and eventually he bolted and she lost control of the lunge rein.Yes I came off and I lost my confidence.Now my horse has been proffessionally broken in since,Ive been on him a few times and he is VERY QUIET.I put my daughter on the lead rein and hes as good as gold. I dont bother with this girl now as she made me mad by her comments.
Some people need to mind it.I would do as you feel fit,ride if you want and if you dont thats upto you not them.
 
GRRRR indeed...I'm fed up of people telling me what i should be doing with my (just turned) 2 year old...Have i bitted him yet, how they would introduce a saddle, how to long rein him, have i tried loading him and how they would do it...Leave me alone, if i want their advice i will ask for it.

I also love the fact that people suddenly turn in to experts and have experience with every type of horse and pony and every discipline even though they have only ever owned an old hack (by the way nothing wrong with owning an old hack!!)

I also hate when people think that your doing something wrong because it's not the way they would do it...as i was always told, there is more than one way to skin a cat, although i don't know where that saying came from?!!?

I used to own a huge Clydesdale that went from his stable to his field everyday. He was groomed, loved and spoilt rotten. He got ridden a couple of times a month and that was just a mooch around the field because i had the urge that morning, and he was quite happy with that. But the comments that he's being wasted used to really annoy me. I pay for my horses so it's up to me what i do with them.

Also comments like...Your bed is too deep, you use too much bedding...I'm not asking you to muck it out or buy my bedding for me, I like to give my horses deep, soft, comfy beds or How much hay do you feed, why does he need a rug on. It's summer why are you bringing in at night...Sometimes i would love to be on a small private or even my own yard.

Unfortunately some people just treat their horses like machines and forget you can have lots of fun with them without riding. I'd hazard a guess that the relationship you have with your horses is far greater than the one they have with theirs. Which might be partly what is behind their need to try to subtly run you down...
 
It wasn't too bad when I just had my 2 little ones,it was when I bought the bigger one a month ago that ppl have given comments. I bought her at auction,on a whim,because I could tbh. She is beautiful,very well bred,but also very green!!!!

Because ppl knew I had bought her,and the precious bloodline she has got,I have had lots of visitors. All of them want to know what I am going to do with her.....

I quite fancy getting to know her,settling her in,perhaps popping her in foal and then perhaps showing her myself when my youngest son is older.

Trouble is,all these comments are beginning to make me feel pressured into doing things that I'm not ready for...or the horse actually,she's a livewire!!!

I feel like being rude and not accepting visitors anymore.....just going back to being me and my horses,like it used to be.......
 
As long as you care for them, which you do and look after them thats your business, its people who have them chuck em in a field and fend for them selves who should be being told, not you your doing nothing wrong if/when i get my own place im sure ill collect a few more
 
people who do that really bug me you should be allowed to do what you want with your own horses you know them and other people dont !

Don't let anybody pressurise you into anything. Tell them that you have a plan for her future and say what you have just said here. That should shut them up!
 
Oh I forgot to say this girl (said shes broken more horses and theyve done more than my horse has done in a year) so what,who cares.According to her because my horse hasnt done much with traffic hes NOT broken in.Ha ha he was PROFFESSIONALLY broken in last year.Hes a bit green thats all. She also said she wouldnt pay more than £450.00 for him.Well HE WILL NEVER BE FOR SALE hes with me for life.I hate people who think they know it all.Grrrrrr idiots!!!!

What I do with my horse is upto me and she needs to mind it.Havent bothered with her since. If I dont want to ride him,its upto me and if I want him as a pet MY CHOICE!
 
I know this feeling well, I bought a 2 yr old Section B filly 5 yrs ago to be companion to my horse whilst at college, I had nothing but why did you buy her why dont you sell her etc etc. She has shown in hand up to county level with me, I broke her to ride last year and she is now out on loan to a family I would trust with my own life never mind hers, I will be having her back next year when daughter is too old for her to put in to foal and live in a field till I have kids(haha)
Shes my best friend, she screams to me whenever she sees me, follows me everywhere and I will never part with her, she has been there through so much. I have another horse who is currently just eating up money but I cant bear to part with her either, she will hang around doing nothing until April next yr when we can try again to get her in foal. ;)

I say leave people to do what they want with their horses, I would never dream of interfering if the horse was happy and healthy.

So true! My mare is off atm so she chills out in her field, is visited twice a day for pats, fly spray, feet, grooming etc and is happy as larry! Although she loves her outings I am very sure she doesn't stand in her field all day thinking 'ohh, I so wish I were being schooled right now'!!!! As long as they are looked after and contented, they are your happy money pit to deal with and if they make you happy, then all is well and good. No one elses business at all. They are a hobby ffs, we don't buy them as guilt trips in fury coats!
 
ah - and after the 'that horse is being wasted' comment the next one is going to be 'my daughter/neice/lady down the road would so like some free riding and could help you out with them..........':D

If you and the horses are happy with your lives then it is no-one's business than your own. We all get it to some extent, and it's hard to ignore sometimes, but that's the only thing to do.
 
The proof is always in the pudding.

Many years ago I was going to the same competition as my cousin. She had hired a "school master" for the day and we were both entered in for the same class.

My aunt told me all sorts of things in the build up, I must do this, that and the other. Mum didn't say anything as she doesn't like horses (except mine who count as her grand children!) and doesn't claim to know anything. I actually got really upset and Mum said don't bother just go and enjoy the day. So we didnt bother. We did our schooling out on hacks and messed about as we always did and came second with a score in the low 70's. My cousin didn't get very good scores at all despite having intensive training sessions for the run up.

Do what is right for you and your horse and you will not go far wrong.

Do what everyone else thinks you should be doing and you will end up in such a pickle trying to follow all the different opinions and advice that you will have no idea what day of the week it is let alone if you are sitting the right way round on your horse, you may not even notice that you are actually putting the head collar on its bottom!
 
Some people can be so annoying. They seem to think they are perfect and above everyone else. Everybody makes mistakes, and they should learn from them, but no from someone else!!! :)
 
I finally 'lost' it today.....

I told someone who came to 'help' me,that....

'IF I WANT TO SIT MY PRECIOUS HORSES IN MY FIELD FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS THEN i WILL!!!'

TBH, seen as my mare is off for at least a year (long term lameness) and she has her lil' companion pony (a shetland), that would mean they both need to be shot. I had someone come over and rant about this, the fact that useless horses should be shot, guess they didn't know they just told me I should shoot my horses because they're not in use! Quite upset! :(
 
I used to have one on my old yard... thank heaven's I moved!!!

Just wish I had the balls to say "Thank you for your opinion, but your horses include a half dead eventer, two psycho yearlings, two un-ridable mares, a dangerous welsh and a broken riding pony. I have two perfectly happy, healthy animals. You figure it out!"
 
I have just met a lady in Teco's who has statrted riding again after 25years, she looked about 60. I was sort of envious until she started on about all the problems she had gone thru with them.
I have 8 horse and ponies, most of are outgrown childrens ponies that I have had since they were 3. If anyone asks what I do with them, I say they are expensive pets.It usually stops them in their tracks. Most do not bother with a follow up question.
I rode 5 days a week for years, brought on my kids ponies, did shows, PC etc for 15 years. I like them are retired!
