Went to local indoor sj yesterday. Went in 2ft 3" for warm up and something caught Fly's eye as we went round one corner and he went from a energetic canter to STOP! Quickly recovered and continued but was this technically 4 faults? They didn't fault me but I was told that it sould of been counted as a stop.

I think it would depend on whether you were actually approaching a jump or not at the time. If you were then it would count as a stop but if you were in between fences then no it wouldn't.

I was inbetween jumps making a turn a good way before the next jump? I was surprised when he said it but said it was because I was not going forward and that was the reason.

I think under BSJA rules you would have to take a step back or cross your tracks to incur 4 faults for a stop or resistance. There is always an element of judges interpretation though and if you ever watch the Hickstead Derby, at the top of the bank in particular, it is often difficult to understand how the rules are applied

If you didn't go backwards you are safe, but it depends on the judge.

With the hickstead bank they say it is OK as long as the back legs don't go backwards, they can paddle as much as they like with the front feet.

BSJA rules :-
Quote Rule 212.7.1
"It is a resistance when the horse for whatever reason ceases to go forward, halts, rears, turns on the spot or steps back, even if this occurs as the result of deliberate action by the rider (for example halting to adjust saddlery or hat)

so i guess it does count as 4 faults
