My little girl has a 10.2hh Shetland and after trying around 10 saddles for her we have settled for a pony pad as it seems she is impossible to fit!

The pony pad works great however now she is getting faster and doing more the pony pad is slipping a fair amount!

Has anyone else had the same problem and have any solutions?

Thank you!

Although not Shetland sized (ours is a 14.2 welsh cross) my daughter rides in a pony pad at the moment as we are between saddles and she actually prefers it! We use a Mattes sheepskin under ours and it very rarely moves.

I use a acavallo gel pad with a string girth on my round natives with a pony pad. Not sure if you can buy them in Shetland size though. It's not perfect but has helped a lot with slipping.

It's a really tricky one, those short backs, incredibly round tummies and very forward girth grooves are very tricky, then add in ponies that probably have significant asymmetries and little unstable riders....some pads seem to work where others don't, do you have it on trial? May be worth trying a different brand if so, or even looking at the more structured offerings that are a step up from a pony pad. I'm NOT a fan of a grippy pad against the skin but sometimes they can make a difference if between pad and numnah. If you have to keep it have you sought advice from the maker?
