Hi. Can anyone help? I've got a lovely yearling who I'd like to show in-hand, however, she kicks and lashes out when strangers approach her from the side. I've worked really hard on her and she is fine with me and I can do anything with her. When she was a month old I went on holiday and left her in the care of my father. She was cut badly across her chest and had a bad experience (rugby tackled to the floor by a vet and 2 men) and as a result she is very wary of strangers. What can I do to help her overcome her fear of people approaching her from the side? Would natural horsemanship training help? Are there any such trainers in the North East of England? It has got to the stage where she is a danger to others and I don't want to take her to shows incase she kicks. In my experience people just seem to ignore red ribbons in tails. Any ideas???? Please help!!!!

could she have been injured when she was rugby tackled ? that's the first thought. She could be in pain - i'd ask the vet.

If not, I think you're going to have to enlist a patient friend to help you work on this. Certainly don't try showing till it's fully resolved - a kick will get you disqualified ?

not much help, sorry sm xx
