Hi,
I am new to the forum. My daughter has been loaning a horse for some time, and will be ready to buy a larger horse soon.

I am interested to know what people use for storing horse equipment. Is there anything out there that works like a garage storage system- with cabinets and drawwers for different bits n pieces?

At the moment we take all our equipment back and forth from home when a lot of it could really be left on site.
Any advice to help would be appreciated

We have a large wooden chest for most of our stuff (brushes, first aid stuff, bath stuff) but anything worth any money now has to go home after our yard was burgled and everything went. Only leave what you really have to!

Have a look in Homebase/B&Q and similar for those plastic shelving units which take big plastic box drawers. They are really useful for grooming kits, headcollars, first aid kits, tack cleaning etc. and keep it all in one space that is easy to organise.

They also do big deep plastic stackable boxes with a hole in the lid for a padlock - great for storing folded rugs. They're all fairly cheap.

I would always take tack home with you for safety reasons, though. If you really have to leave it at the yard, consider investing in a proper steel storage locker, though these are very expensive.

i bought a secondhand filing cabinet,i`m so pleased with it i may get another.
the draws hold 2 rugs each and lotions n potions go in another draw.i hang little things like hoof pick on the handles.they are also vermin proof.

We have a local store that sells second hand office furniture, all in good condition, and they susually have filinf cabinets and such like. It is a good idea to bolt them to walls, floors.

Yep, filing cabinets for me too I buy them cheap from work as they tend to chuck them when the get a bit scratched and tatty. Easier to acces the contents than a big trunk and you can get locking ones to thwart light fingers.

Thanks for all your good advice. Everyone seems to use some kind of storage box. I just need to find one now

Sounds like a heavy cabinet that's lockable will do the trick. I do like the idea of using a filing cabinet so I think I'll start there. May move on to steel cabinets if/ when we get more horses cos they shouldn't ever need replacing!

Love the freezer idea btw- very creative!
