We are moving yards (currently have own lock up full of stuff) need to condense down and we have to have large chest type things in stables. (stables are massive).

tack will be in tack room, but need something big enough for a lot of the other stuff we have acuminated!

Can anyone recommend something big enough, that horses wont chew/get into as well as being rat proof and rot proof?

thanks

Not a plastic garden shed then if it's going in the stable with the horse! A metal feed bin or possibly a de-gassed freezer might be worth looking at (check safety, I've no idea and just thinking quickly).

Metal filing cabinet, either the drop file drawer type or an upright shelved unit. Screwed to the floor and wall.

I think that's a great idea, but I would make extra sure that the locks work very well. I can just imagine my horse would have a field day tugging at the drawer handles especially once he'd seen me open the drawers. :)

My big horse is so nosy no matter how big the stable he'd find a way to get into anything left in his stable. When you find something I'd find a way to attach it to the wall so it can't be knocked over

I was going to suggest an old chest freezer - large, cheap, rat and rot proof but I wouldn't leave one actually in with the horse no that indestructable if kicked or chewed!

I could not leave anything within reach of my new cob mare, she is well into DIY. Just last night she was helping my OH erect an electric fence to prevent her snacking on acorns. She was picking up the plastic stakes out of the wheelbarrow, one by one and putting them on the floor. She then ran off with the plastic reel that the tape was on. The OH was heard shouting 'bring it back' at her.

I personally wouldn't advise the plastic storage chests. I have one in the garden and it's so flimsy, the wind cracked it! If a horse was to kick or lean against it I'm pretty sure it would shatter. I'd go for a metal feed bin bolted to the floor and wall.

I have a big metal solid chest picked it free of charge from the school. If you can get something similar there brill. Try ebay or preloved. Also have a plastic garden one but its not very strong....
