I recently moved to a new yard and there is pretty much nowhere to store any of my stuff. I can keep buckets etc in my stable but thats about it.

Now its coming into winter and im wondering where on earth I will keep all of my rugs, and how I will keep them dry/clean when not in use.
Has anyone got any ideas as to how to store things like rugs/saddlecloths etc without taking up too much space or breaking the bank.

Ive heard of like rug bags etc, does anyone use these?

Thanks!

Can you not string a line flat against the back wall of the stable to hang the rugs on. One of the girls who rented off me last year did that and it worked well. Or how about the rugs you dont need use something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Space-Vacuum-Storage-Bags/dp/B000KOA420 you put everything into the bag attach a hoover to it to suck all the air out and it shrinks everything right down

Rug bags are good - but are those vaccum bags you can get (sucks all the air out and makes it smaller).

B & Q sell green garden trunks that are also fab, if you put them together properly they are water tight, could sit outside the front of your stable? and they can be padlocked also

You've moved to a new yard & have no where to store anything, not even a few rugs?

I suppose you may be able to buy a second hand garden shed & erect that? You could buy one of those garden chests in plastic & store things in that? I would think that eithetr of these suggestions would cost around £40?

No no storage space at all really.
There is a locked tack room for saddle/bridle/grooming kitand a space in the feed room for a bin but apart from that nothing. I could possibly hang them in the stable but I have a rather large rug collection and I could only fit maybe 1 or 2 at most up there.

I have a b&q box from my last yard, unfortunatley it is not allowed outside stable as the walkway is narrow. I also wouldnt dare put it in the stable for fear of him sitting on it or putting a leg through it!

I thought about those vaccum bags, sound like a good idea, but maybe a nightmare to get them out and sorted if i wanted to use them, especially as they would have to be kept at home!

when i went to a yard that didn't have much storage i just bought some of those plastic storage boxes that you can get from anywhere and stacked them up and used height rather than floor space

How big is your stable? Is it big enough to put a partition in at the back and have a little storage area? You would only need about 2ft across the back. You could build a frame and attach it to the wall and then clad it with ply wood so it's safe (you would obviously need a little hinged section on it for you to get through!) An old filing cabinet is good for bits and bobs, numnahs, boots, brushes etc and you could have a rope to hang rugs over. A garden storage chest is also good but that would take up more room. As long as the partition is high enough so the horse couldn't get his head over, you could probably fit a feed bin or two in there as well.

I thought about those storage boxes, the clear ones but wasnt sure exactly how much can be fit in one, but tis certainly something to look into!
I will also look into bring b&q box but im pretty sure YO will say no since no1 else is allowed one due to lack of space as my barn is also used as storage for hay and straw for other liveries.

I would love to partitian some stable off, but unfortunatley i dont think YO would be impressed with that idea!

surely as long as it was reversible and didn't damage the structure of the stable (you would only need to fix a frame to the wall with about 4 good sized screws each side, they'd leave holes but you could fill them in) the YO wouldn't have a problem? Mine has let me take down a hay rack and put up a hay bar, attach lick holders to the wall etc on the understanding that I put it back to how it was if I leave. Asking won't hurt surely?

how about a corner kitchen unit, prob get them of ebay and you can put them in the stable corners which is dead space, i use to have one which i put the feed bucket on top of.

If you do put up a line at the back of your stable a good tip is to use pulleys so that it is easier to get rugs on and off it also helps if you use rope and then thread a bit of plastic drain pipe over it.

How big is your horse/stable could you put up high lorry shelves you know the rounded metal ones?
