Ok I am sure that this has been asked before but......does anyone have a solution to the lack of storage in a trailer?
I wouldn't need much just for spare rugs, head collars, grooming kit etc. I find at the moment that it all has to go in the back of my car and its making a mess!
I don't mind the saddle and bridle in the boot but would really like to keep the rest out of the car if possible, and no I cant afford to change my trailer into a lorry ;)!
At the moment I have a 511, and will only ever travel my mare (on the passenger side) so the right hand side of the trailer is completely empty!

Anyone have any good ideas? Obviously I don't want it to slide around and cause her stress or slide under her feet. Maybe one of those garden boxes.....it could be bolted to the ground but then that would put unnecessary holes in my trailer!

Any ideas welcome

thanks

I have a tack pack which I put on the empty side when travelling one horse in my 511. It's not ideal but it's fine for one. You could invest in a posh tack locker tho. I also bought a mack in a sack and a dry rug both by Rambo and both fold up really small and live in the trailer. Added some hooks and suspend them, the grooming bag and the bridle bag from the holes at the front which means no hay get into them. Water and muck bucket on the floor in the nose. Job done.

If I am only taking one pony I put the water container, bucket and mucking out stuff on the spare side. At the front of the trailer I have one of these http://www.naylors.com/shires-handy-hanger-black?gclid=CKH6jp6Q-M4CFZQK0wodLOgD6g and hang rug, bridle and spare lead reins on it. On the floor I have an old grooming tray with brushes and hoof oil etc in it. I only have the saddle in the car really, as its normally full of kids/dog too. I have also got a folding saddle rack in the trailer for when I am really taking loads of kit.

I have my trailer split 3/4 / 1/4 so the horse has 3/4 of the width and the rest of my stuff has the other 1/4 space. I have to move hay nets out of the trailer or my step ladders if I want to unload but other than that its brilliant for storage and Dad will soon be making me hooks to hang these items from anyway so hopefully it will solve the situation. I have a shovel and broom, a mounting block, a spare full hay net, a water bottle and three water buckets and still have room to spare for a radio, whips and a hanging up rug or two. If I need to get changed at an event I just shut the back doors and move the partition right across so I am closed in. I can shut the top of the front unload which makes it a bit more private and just keep the ramp down at the front.

thanks for the advice everybody!
just wondering if you can move the partitions in a 511 to give the hrose 3/4 of the space? How did you manage that?

I used to have one of those shoe holder hangers over the jockey door. That held first aid, spares and grooming kit. If I needed to take rugs, they went in a trug tub tied in to the front as they tend to smell more than other kit.
