I have decided to sell my horse and trade down for something easier / safer . After yet another fall & confidence knock I've decided to sell / trade her in for something less quirky. Does anyone have any positive stories about trading down.:)

Me! I had an ex-racehorse who although I never came off him, used to flit between angel and devil, I rehomed him in August and a couple of weeks later took delivery of a 13.2hh New Forest pony, she’s wonderful, safe but sparky! She’s not dead and is prone to be spooky when not in a lot of work but she’s so laid back to handle (I know if she has a fit out hacking if I lead her past she’ll go, not so with the racehorse who I would rather sit on an explosion than be on the ground out hacking!), I’d owned her a week before we went to the RC show, we came home with rosettes for various classes in showing, dressage and jumping. We’ve been out cubbing and have done lots of gallopy fun hacks. It was the best move I ever made and I really enjoy having her, horse owning is a totally different experience now and even better the savings on costs are amazing, shod every 8 weeks, no emergency vet call outs for stitches, a token hard feed and about £30 a month over winter in hay!

I've not once regretted it!

oooh, I'm interested in this too as contemplating a similar move. I love my boy to bits, but I think I just want to have fun and stop worrying about bringing a horse on!

Dizzle, do you mind me asking how tall you are? I'm really fancying a pony myself but am worried that at 5"6 my feet my drag on the ground so am too worried to go and try one :o

Ghostie, my daughter went back to her 14.hh pony from a 16hh horse we had and had great fun with the pony all over again. She was 5.6 like you and never looked too big on the pony. She found it less stressful when she started working and living away from home to manage a pony than horse as well!
