One winter I stored my hay in our garage and there wasn’t a problem with it. Unfortunately my husband has now filled the garage with cars, so I can’t do that any more!

Did it for years. Block of two garages - one converted to a stable, one stored hay, shavings, the box trailer used to collect the hay and shavings,

Hay was on pallets off the floor and not stacked to the walls or roof to promote airflow.

I'd get some pallets underneath to help air flow and not cram it totally full. Small bales you can get about 150 in a 12 x 12 stable - crammed in.

Make sure it's really really dry when you buy it and keep a metal pole / scaffolding pole posted into the middle of the stack so you can feel the temperature in the middle of it. Check is regularly to make sure it's not getting hot.

our 'barn' is technically a double garage, if hay crop is new (we've done half) we leave the double doors open but it's always been stacked fairly tight (on pallets) and keep an eye on temperatures (particularly if it wasn't quite as dry as you might like being baled). If it's no brand new I wouldn't worry.
