Do any of you store hay in your trailer, but still use it for taking your horses out? Just pondering as I have moved yards, and we can buy hay in but have to collect, there isn't a massive amount of space for storage and was wondering about keeping a few bales in the other side of the trailer, but wasn't sure how safe this would be.

When my sister was staying away for competing, they would often have hay the other side to the horse. Pretty sure they were using bungees to help stabilise the bales! Was only ever max a couple of bales though
So yes, possible. But make sure the bales are tied to something solid to help prevent them falling/sliding under the horses feet

We store hay in our trailer all the time. Depends on how dry your trailer is. Ours is stored in their as we have to go and collect it and it’s easier to leave it all in there and use it straight from there. If we need the trailer for anything else we just empty it into the spare stable.

We’ve stored our hay in their in summer and winter and never had a problem (Ifor 505)

Sorry just re-read your post and thinking it’s maybe about leaving it in there while it’s in use. We take ours out as I’m pretty certain it would get wee splashed!

I wouldn't do it long term for the mat lifting issue like @Landcruiser mentioned.

However, when moving my pony yards, one half had a large load of hay in it and he travelled very happily next to that as he ate it all the way!
