Does anyone store their tack in their trailer?
I don’t really have anywhere in the house for my tack but my trailer is parked on the drive. It has a hitch lock, wheel clamp and is behind electric gates.
If I were to lock the jockey door and padlock the ramps do you think it would be secure enough to store tack in?
Would there be any issues with damp or mould?

Your household insurance might cover you - you need to check. What are the requirements / limits for stuff stored in an outhouse or shed? Its often more generous that equine specific insurance.

It will be harder to control the temperature in the trailer - its going to heat up like anything at the moment and could potentially be damper when it rains. I wouldn't use it for long term storage but for tack you are going to take out every day and clean often it should be fine.

Unfortunately I cannot believe any insurance company will cover for loss if your tack is stored permanently in a horsebox trailer. Our insurance company dictated even the door locks of our house were a certain standard and we could not store tack in our garage which is integrated within the house floorplan.
House insurance will normally cover tack and equipment whilst away from the house competing but only on a full risks contents cover where it is a declared item...

I don't think any insurance would cover you I wouldn't do it ever, I took my tack home for years bought a good saddle carry bag and left it in the hallway at home, the bridle I had a few so just left one at the yard and kept one at home.

I did get an insurance pay out on tack that was stolen from a trailer, to be fair. It does happen, but I certainly wouldn't rely on it. And, obviously, none of my tack lives in the trailer now (unless you count the random junk that accumulates in there like 10 year old WW club boots with dodgy velcro, and spare headcollars!).

I wouldn't do it!!!

If your tack is in your house and it gets pinched, your house "contents" insurance should cover it (unless there is a single-item value exclusion in operation; check your policy!).

If your tack is in your car and the same thing happens, your car insurance (depending on what you have) should cover it.

But in a trailer parked in a driveway? Nope! Don't think so!

Someone local to me stored all their kit in a trailer and parked it in the field where they had their horses. Someone broke in to it and took the lot. It happens. Think it would be unwise to do TBH.
