I know the media sometimes hype these things up but I work at an airport and I know they have actually made quite a lot of preparations for this storm that's going to hit on Monday. They don't usually do that unless there's a genuine chance of disruptive weather.

The Express always do this, according to more reputable sources it will be a wet and windy day, no more than that. Just call me Micheal Fish!

The last time Micheal Fish got it really wrong, my husband (wasn`t married then though) was nearly killed. He forecast 'a tad breezy' and we got hurricane strength winds lol ..... I hope it isn`t too bad on monday though, i was hoping to ride in the afternoon too.

And guess where I live!!!! I'm sure he won't be the only one looking a bit mucky, quick squirt with a hose on the legs and a bucket of hot water and a cloth to do the bits the rug doesn't cover and he'll be good to go! I shall be seriously impressed if he behaves well this week, it's an indoor test but with the wind howling around things could get interesting, Hope he behaves for his auntie who will be riding!!!
 
We're forecast heavy rain and strong winds on Sunday. Nothing unusual for here, though, it's just when we get weather like that, it doesn't make the national news because it's north of Watford ;)

It will be interesting, though, as after years of begging and pleading, YO last week gave me a storage hut for the field, so we could store stuff and dry out rugs etc. It is not bolted down... I am hoping the horses don't decide to shelter beside it, since it and they may end up in the next field.

In various high winds on top of our hill, the greenhouse flew past the windows one morning, on a bad Xmas Eve night the summer house ended up at the top of a very large tree, and on another occasion the shed we kept the geese in rolled over and across paddock, so on Saturday we will be out doing our winter securing with steel ropes tying down any thing that can move!!

Luckily the ponies have an old stone barn to take shelter in.

Yes, I'm in that area too and nearly 1,000 above sea level :)
When the hurricane of 87 hit us I was still training at saddlery college, I could not get off the hill on my motorbike to get to the train station. There were trees in the next road that had come down and straight through the tops of houses.
Our fairly large silver birch tree at the time was bent in half over nextdoors fence like a giant staple.
I now have small chicken houses in the garden, I may shove the hens in cages and put them in my workshop or they may disappear!

I was going to go competing early next week, but we are very much in the 'track of low', don't fancy taking the truck out in that!
 
Woke early and can't get to sleep :( .. I hate strong winds! I have very vague memories of a hurricane as a child ; hen house blew onto main road too so looks like its a common theme :) I must have picked up on my parents fear at the time because high winds make me quite nervous and I'm not usually a worrier. Hope it stays away from us up here in the mid lands . Well in fact I hope it stays away full stop! Pouring rain here at the moment and quite windy too.
 
When the hurricane of 87 hit, I drove down to my yard to be confronted with trees all down on the lane leading to it. Clambered over them to find the horses all fine. Tried to drive back home only to be told that there was a live wire down so the road leading home was closed (must have driven over it to get to yard). Had to do a many mile detour to get back home only to find husband still in bed totally oblivious and totally unworried why I had been so long!
 
Oh blinking wonderful, Im in yorks on the end of that and Im flying to Florida early thurs am :o

Do not want to have to leave with trees from the woods behind my field (council owned but never looked after) blown down across fencing etc :(
 
The roof on our stable block is old slate with a big sag in the middle. The interior ceiling is old wattle and horsehair plaster, falling away in lots of places. It's ancient. When I moved to the yard (a couple of weeks ago) I knocked down all the loose stuff with a broom handle....nonetheless, my boy will be out in the open fields on Sunday night, well away from any potential flying debris! We are slap bang in the middle of the storm path, high up and exposed...it's going to be rough in the field, but better that than god knows what if the roof comes down!
 
I'm in the 'danger zone' too, here in Dorset. Nowt I can do about it!! Meant to be working, which will mean a rough ride doing the chores, just hope we don't have a tree or three coming through the stable block. (Trees behind stables). OH's parents live on Portland, and he wants to go 'visit them and see the sea kicking up' - which would be, pretty impressive to be honest.
