Storm On It's way :(

Another in the danger zone, right on the south coast by the sea - my old tb mare is on full grass livery, she's not flighty so hopefully won't be hooning about too much! Work on Sunday and Monday will be interesting then (I work at a big competition centre and everything is going ahead as normal) sign of things to come I guess :/

Yes...i too hope it's not too bad a day on Monday because i want to go a hacking doing during the daylight hours!

I was led to believe this alleged 'storm' was hitting Southern England on Sunday and working it's way up country...?

The roof on our stable block is old slate with a big sag in the middle. The interior ceiling is old wattle and horsehair plaster, falling away in lots of places. It's ancient. When I moved to the yard (a couple of weeks ago) I knocked down all the loose stuff with a broom handle....nonetheless, my boy will be out in the open fields on Sunday night, well away from any potential flying debris! We are slap bang in the middle of the storm path, high up and exposed...it's going to be rough in the field, but better that than god knows what if the roof comes down!

Best place is outside. When I still lived with my parents a longtime ago now, we had old stables which had been on a coaching road. The sky went really dark and my mare asked to come in.

Just after we got into the stable, there was a rushing sound and the whole roof lifted off, my Father never forgot seeing me and my mare emerging from the door way as huge old beams crashed behind us. I now prefer the boys to stay out!

That's lucky really, you wouldn't want to see it flying off through the air like the new hen house did in a storm one year.

That is very true - particularly as my OH is putting it together so I don't know how windproof it will be! You have got me worried about my hen houses now though :)

Well preparations have been made - at home with garden furniture and bins secured (not many preparations needed at the yard thankfully). Let's just hope it all is a hype and nothing too bad, although the met office appear to think it's not going to be too pleasant! :(

I'm in France, NW, Pays de la Loire and it is blowing really heavily here, feels like the roof of the house is lifting. I will be up all night as I don't like the wind. Horses are happy so far and I shall probably be with them all night, but beware it is heading up to you guys. I hope it misses you, but here is starting to get scary now.
