Further to the in or out debate, would you put yours out in the field with the field shelter in or deliberately avoid it so if it's as bad as they say the ponies aren't in said shelter when it takes off !!

Solid 24x12 shelter with metal skids but not fixed to ground in anyway - never had issues with wind but not had a storm forecast this bad since we've had it.

Alternative has hedges but fenced on the inside so they can't get right in them for shelter.

Depends how safe the shelter is, if you think it's going to tip over best keep them out of it. Where we used to live wind was always an issue and we had to take account of it. Mobile shelters were fixed to the ground because they would blow over if not. We also used to put chains over the roof to keep them on.

Can you rig up some way of anchoring it to the ground before the storm with ground spikes? My field shelters are on concrete but have steel anchor points drilled into the concrete at several points all the way round.

Tbh I wouldn't trust an unsupported shelter not to flip in the wind speeds that are forecast. Big worry all round for all us horse owners, isn't it.

We're on heavy clay so ground anchors would need to be meters long to be any good and not sure I can get them that quickly, on balance I'll pop them in the other field, they won't die from rain for a night (will be rugged up) and I'd not forgive myself if shelter tipped over and they were hurt.
