eg mullen mouth

i've never used one before but plan to buy one , i've read that you need a smaller size than usual jointed size

is this correct?

if so do you go down 1/2 0r 1/4 inch?

down 1/4 of an inch for a straight bar. not sure if it makes a difference for a mullen mouth

I think (typically) that it depends!

Our boy loves straight mouthpieces. He's 5 1/4 size mouth, just to be difficult.
Wilkie magic bit is 5 1/4 and a perfect fit.
Did a special order on a 5 1/2 hanging cheek mullen mouth and it's too big.
5 1/2 mullen mouth rugby pelham is perfect, 5 would definitely be too small. Probably Korsteel make.
5 inch Mylers and Neue Schule are fine on him. 135mm Happy Mouths are also fine.

(He is fussy with his bits and gets bored of them quickly)
