My mare has recently been sticking her tounge out whilst being ridden i have had the vet out and her teeth were fine.I have been riding her in a jointed happy mouth for the past few months iv borrowed a straight bar happy mouth to see if she was any better but she was still the same.im going to try her with a grackle noseband and stick to straight bar happy mouth.friend suggested trying a french link but not sure if itd help? any suggestions please im desperate lol

I'd give the frenck link a go, as a straight bar would actually put more pressure down on her tongue.

Is she just hanging her tongue out, or opening her mouth, lifting her head, running off? When is she doing it?

I'd also suggest getting an EDT out to give you a 2nd opinion on her teeth. IME I found vets make teeth comfortable for eating, whereas EDTs do a lot more work balancing the horses mouth and making it comfortable for a bit. Mine also advises what shape of bit suits your horses mouth conformation.

If she sticking her tongue out, shes telling you she dosnt like tongue pressure. Putting a grackle on will just forse her to deal with it, and can cause other issues.
Single jointed bits have a nut cracker action, and pinch the tongue, so she wouldnt like it.
A straight bar, will offer more even pressure, without the pinch, but its still bearing down on her tongue, which she is obviously sensitive about

I'd suggest a thin mouthpiece with a small port, so she has room for her tongue in her mouth, so she dosnt need to lol it out.

Hi scallywags. do you have a mailorder service so i can buy one of your bits. I can see where you are coming from and think one of these bits wouls suit her.She opens her mouth slightly and sticks her tounge out but only on the left side never on the right.I rode her tonight in straight bar and grackle but will have to find something more long term.

good luck with that myler. That is what i started my mare in. She is an ex racer and came to me quite scared of the bit. The single jointed snaffle was just so wrong for her and made her really uncomfortable. She has a small mouth (like me lol) and i think she just felt less constricted in the myler. She is in a french link now and seems to prefer that for hacking.
