so basically, I bought my horse on the 20th of May 2015. He came from a home where he has gotten away with a lot of things for the past 10 years so naturally when I got him, he was bolchy and rude (but never nasty of malicious).
I booked the farrier to come out to re-do his shoes thinking he's 10 he wouldn't have a problem... but unfortunately we had a bit of trouble resulting in all the shoes coming off and none going back on...
so for a week and a half he had no shoes on and did no road work. but the day before a different farrier came out to put them back on he went lame (suspected footsore) and farrier said it would go off after a couple of days. It didn't. Called vet out and she hoof tested and gave me bute for the week and said ring back if it didn't get any better. I gave him a week off to see how it got. It got better and one day he was 100% sound so all I did was walked him round a grass paddock, with slight trotting and two days later he went lame again. We hoof tested again and found he was flinching on the right fore inside. To cut a long, long story short he messed about again trying to get the shoes off and stood on the nail. not a big enough puncture to have any harm though. But within the messing about he gained heat in his leg and a little fluid pocket. But my friend pressed his shoulder today and he was flinching and moving off a lot and wasn't limping as bad after. I have rang the vet again and she has prescribed more bute and said see how it goes but was wondering if anyone else could advise on what it could be or anything to help? he's currently on box rest in a stable but gets very stressed so may have to take him out very soon but running out of ideas as he broke out of his little paddock last night! 😡
