My mare has a strange patch of hair loss just on her neck behind her jaw line. It started small but within 24 hrs is now a bit bigger at approx 3in long. She is iron grey and her skin is quite dark, beneath the patch it is a dark reddy pink with one perfect small white spot (not raised). There is no scaly skin. No sign of ringworm, doesnt seem to be itchy or sore, no injury/cuts or scratches. It isnt where anything could rub her but it is getting progressively bigger.
its almost like someone had pulled her hair out of this place and nowhere else - there is no sign of rubbing around it.
Havent called the vet yet, wondered about some sort of fungal infection but would that irritate her? not sure if this 'blister' like spot is anything to do with it or whether it was always there as clearly she has never been bald before!
She isnt really moulting, and she hasnt got a patch like this anywhere else, its kind of lightening shaped - very harry potter
Any ideas what it could be? Worth getting the vet?
