strange behaviour continued...

following on from the strange behaviour my dog was showing after being spade ie possible phatom pregnancy.

it is now a week since her op and she is full of life almost back to normal and due for a check up at the vets on friday. I am however very concerned that she is still not eating properly....!

she will take chicken and ham from your hand or out of her bowl and occasionally take wet dog food from your hand also. She will not however go near it if its in her bowl and will push it away with her nose. She also does this with biscuits and will push them into your hand and walk away.

she looks almost scared of her normal dog food and it is soo upsetting. Im trying not to make a big deal about it so ot to make her feel worse but it is soul destroying!:confused:

anyone have any tips or advice is this just being fussy or is there something that migt of happened at the vets to make her feel this way? And sorry for the mammoth post:(
 
an ovaro- hysterectomy is a major operation, if you had it you wouldn't be walking for 6 weeks, she might be feeling really bruised and sore or may even have a mild infection?

My bitch was spayed due to a pyometra and she screamed for a whole week during the night, I think we sometimes underestimate how sore they are.

Also remember during a general anaesthetic she had a tube down her throat and was tied to a table on her back, sometimes a sore throat or sore limbs can be a factor.

What was her weight like before the spay and when was she spayed in relation to season etc xx
 
She had a tube down her throat-my dog is normally fine after anaesthetics but the last time they must have scratched her on the way out as she had a horrid cough and wouldn't eat properly- and she's a lab!!

Give her a few days, I'd soak food to a pulp if you don want her to eat moist chicken etc. She'll come right I'm sure. Xx
 
her weight was spot on she was very active had t small meals of wet food and biscuits there if she wanted them but she's not greedy and would only eat if she was hungry. Her last season was in feb so quite close but the vets said this would be ok...x

we have also tried soaking her biscuits but not interested in them.
is there anything else i could try with the chicken that she might like?
 
Something stinky, pilchards? Marmite?

If they are going through a phantom pregnancy just as a spay op is about to commence , actually having the op can make it last weeks, this is why I asked!

If she is healthy and not infected etc she will eat when she wants, maybe wait until she is really hungry and offer her something yummy!! XX
 
Were you giving any painkillers in her food?? That may have her distrusting the bowl. Perhaps try a different bowl and different location!
 
yeh she did have painkillers and i thougt the same but she's too clever i have tried bowls plates carpet but she's not interested. Thank you for all the replies i will try some mince and see if that gets a waggy tail x
 
Some delicious lamb mince from the human shops is likely to cheer up the sorest of post-op dogs!

As for feeding raw, I'm new to it and have only been doing it since my dog was very ill with pancreas inflammation .... I haven't looked back! Tonight my dog is having pork chops and some tripe. For breakfast it was three entire chicken carcasses. She was never into her food but she really savours it now, lying down to eat and taking it to her bed to eat at her leisure. She drags me out of bed at 5 for breakfast when she used to be bored with breakfast!
