My sister owns a CKCS which is just over a year old. She has strated to show some strange behaviour.

Last week it started with rubbing her face excessively along the ground. She seems to go into a little trance when she does it and you have to really shout her name to snap her out of it. Ears and teeth have been looked into, can see nothing wrong. No redness or irritation.

Then she has started licking the toes on one foot. She has licked all the fur off one toe, she started on the next toe this afternoon and has already licked half the fur off it?

Sis is phoning vet to talk to him tomorrowm but does anyoen have any ideas? I though hayfever (licking toes is a sign I believe?) but that seems weird behaviour. Nothing has been changed, diet is the same, no upsets or anything.

She gets plenty of exercise, lots of playtime and any time she is left on her own she is left with her favourite toys and a stuffed kong. There has been no change to the routine she has known from a pup.

could it be a neurological problem? syringomyelia? Think a trip to the vet is probably the right call.

She watched the programme about pedigree dogs and we all know CKCS featured highly in this, so sister is in a right tizz abut it as she is worried Zoey has this heritable condition that was spoken of. I sincerely hope it just turns out to be pollen problem.

LMAO - as soon as I saw the title of the post, I thought "and now someone is going to say syringomyelia" because of course this is ALWAYS the reason that CKCS display any kind of symptom now

Sounds like normal CKCS behaviour to me

but I would go to the vets just to make sure

ETA - my little white greyhound does exactly the same about rubbing her face along the ground, no idea why so I just ignore her now although it drives me mad

I was hoping that you would see the post actually as I know you are familiar with them

She is going to the vet today at 2pm. She is not herself at all and has now stopped playing. She is the most plaful dog.

I'll update as soon as possible

Well in all honesty that doesnt sound like any case of syringomyelia that I have heard of so far - from what I have heard it takes a while to show itself, and comes on really gradually? But (quick disclaimer!) I suppose every case might be different

Anyway I will keep my fingers crossed

Splotchy was probably trying to reassure Gina.

As a GSD person I always get tired of the reams of posts about crippled, inbred, HD-infested GSDs who can't walk on their back legs (been in the breed my whole life, never seen one crippled by HD - seen a few contract CDRM in old age, though, like quite a few other breeds) so Splotchy, as a person with personal involvement with CKCS is probably the same!

My boy is prone to allegies and it sounds like that is what may be wrong with Zoey, it made B utterly miserable last year, fingers crossed for her.

I don't think laughing at anyone posting their thoughts is normally the done thing :S

No idea who you were before you were Skhosu, but surely you know (since my previous user name is in my sig) that I NEVER do the "done thing"?

As I have often said on here, I have had around 30 years involvement with CKCS (through my mum/sister) and I have also often voiced my thoughts before about the tendency of everyone (vets/dog owners/the general public) to suggest all and any symptom shown by a CKCS is now going to be attributable to syringomyelia.

It is a bit like saying that any human being who coughs and/or sneezes at the moment must have swine flu
