When it's dark & I go to see my horse my torch picks up the reflective stripes on her rug. Now I can see shes been waiting for me however, when she realises it's me she wanders back into the darkness and times it so she appears at the gate when I do almost as if she's been off doing something else?

It isn't a problem I'm just interested to see if its some sort of horsey psychology??...thoughts

Maybe she gets so excited at the thought of seeing you (and her dinner!) that she can't stand still and paces around?

Quite an interesting conundrum!

That would probably be it though she walks miles and yet during the Summer she'll stand & wait, but I think you've hit the nail on the head...dinner (won't be me) she wants to see

Merlin does just that with the exception that he doesnt re-appear

He times it just right so that he is gone when I get to the gate.... especially after I wormed him in the field this morning... doubt I will see him for dust tomorrow!!

Shilasdair- my horse is the same, he won't pee in public! he'll hold on at a show or even in his stable (unless its at night and i'm not there). i've never been on him when he's peed either! he always waits until he's in the field, wanders off a bit and then lets it all out! i think its really cute

Well, I have three...and the other two happily pee right in front of you (although my grey likes to pee on the hay piles as she has a cleanliness OCD and hates splashback). My old TB has always been like this...she will pee if you turn away and don't look at her though. It's all those years of blue equine blood, perhaps

Tonight she broke the rule and I had to walk to her shelter where she was waiting for her tea (it was raining heavy), so she is clever there's no point in us both getting soaked
