I have had spooks for 4 years now and this isn't a new thing, but it bugs me so I thought I'd see if you have any clues!
1st of all, for background info, we do endurance and he has always had good recovery rates so I don't think that this affects him too greatly.
When we are out hacking, he sometimes makes this strange 'chuffing' noise. We have always joked that he sounds like a train. It is always when he is relaxed and walking, generally after doing something a bit strenuous (not always heavy work though - say for example trotting with a horse that is of much lower fitness then him, so not exactly stretching him to his limits or anything!!)
He will potter along the road chuffing, and then if you ask him to pick up the speed/effort again, he quietens down and breathes normally.
The only thing that has made me question it a bit more now is that the last 3 rides we have got back from, he has let out a big groan a few minutes after we are back.
So - any ideas?!? Or do you think it is just a habit that he has?!
