Anyone see the sad tale of the mother of two killed by a train when her ugg boots got caught on the level crossing. The reports spoke of heroic attempts to free her but it now seems someone is being charged with manslaughter ?? Anyone know anything.

Wow....I know some Uggs can cost up to £200.......but shorely not worth risking your life for!!!

I did read the story the other day.

I suppose she thought she could get them and get to safety in time.....terrible tradgedy.

Manslaughter?

The poor woman's foot became stuck in the wooden slats used at sides of crossings to guard them. ( Not trying to retreive boots of any brand)

Two men tried to free her from the slats .

Sadly, I often see people trying to totter over this type of boarding at the crossing near to us, when the gates are shut for an oncoming train, and they want to cross to the other platform. Others vault over the barrier and cross the tracks on the normal tarmac road surface.

It is a very tragic story however it may actually make people realise that the barriers are there for a reason, you may not think anything will happen if you just run across but you never know.

And the boards designed to prevent such an accident, acutally led to one, they are set like dragons teeth tank traps. to prevent walking on them.
I expect they will rethink the design now -

I expect she and the two men trying to free her tried,
these boards are not normal planks or rails, but meant to act like a cattle grid and prevent anything or anyone walking or driving on them and getting on to the the track

They did actually free her. Then her BF yelled at her to cross over as it was their train coming in & needed to be on the other side to get on it. That is when she got hit.

Te slats are to stop livestock (animals) from going up the track. Not silly people who are late for their train.
I appologize if that sounds heartless but they only have themselves to blame.

I read about this - as others have said, she was freed by a passing stranger, then froze when people shouted to her to move as a train was coming

It is tragic, but she was so silly to cross when the barriers were down

She was probably stil in shock after being trapped, Another person was injured, don't know if it was her boyfriend or the other rescuer.

People cross all the time, whilst waiting at our local corssing, we see people use the pedestrian gate to the near platform, then totter across via the boards to get to the other side.
Or vault the barriers- no bridge to get over the tracks and gate may shut before train due time.

that's what i thought.

It was the kind stranger that helped free her that got hurt trying to stop her from crossing after freeing her. They witnesses told him to let go of her or he would of lost his arm.
Her BF had crossed after she was freeded & kept shouting at her to get over.

its such an awful story, poor woman what a price to pay for a moment of madness. Her poor family who are left behind.

What about the poor train driver - no one seems to be bothered about he feels. The woman died through her own stupididty, and while it was a high price to pay for a moment of 'not thinking', those barriers are there for a damn good reason.

My oh is a train driver, and although he hasnt had a fatality, many of his fellow drivers have - and believe me it traumatises them - they are fathers, brothers, husbands as well. The recent case of a driver being hit with a lump of concrete through the cab - that poor bloke was nearly killed. Someones idea of fun? !

TRains and train lines are not 'play areas' they should be treated with repect. But also the consequences of people playing 'chicken' or throwing things, or ignoring barriers - go far deeper than just pranks.
Pepole lose their jobs, because they cant go back to driving, and people who commit suicide by throwing themselves in front of trains - well its beyond words. My oh has a friend who has had 3 of these - its a wonder he hasnt cracked up!

So no sympathy from me for her - perhaps others will learn from this!

That explains it then, but am shicked that the bf did not escort her to safety and thank the stranger, instead of making his own way to the platform!

TT- trainn drivers have a terrible time when people do such things, as do the Transport Police
