Hi,
This morning before work I went to the yard to check 'my' (owned by a friend but I loan him) welsh section d and put on a grazing muzzle for during the day (much to his disgust)
He has always been a little **** to catch and today was no exception. His' modus operandi' is to stay about 15-20 feet away from you and circle round and round you as you walk towards him, like lunging without the rope.He will stay in trot or canter and will listen to voice comands to change pace
This can last anything from 5 to 45 minutes however he always gives in
eventually and finally stands to be caught.
This morning I was playing the normal game of catch me if you can and typically as I had work to get too he was being particularly difficult but after about 30 mins of 'following' him his back end seemed to stumble slightly then recover however it then happened again but it was more of a stagger. He continued to trot
normally afterwards then stood to be caught. I could see he wasn't right
and took him out the field to check him over. He could walk normally forward and backwards however if I turned him on a tight circle he wouldn't step under himself with his legs and when asked to walk immediately forwards after circling he was stepping out with his back legs (wide stance). He seemed to
have no muscle pain over his hind quarters and was happy within himself. I decided to put him back out and the YO is going to keep checking on him but I have no idea what caused it.
He is 21 but fit and healthy although is a bit overweight (no big crest or anything though) he has never had laminitis. He has been out 24/7 since Monday on grazing that I would descibe as reasonable ( poor in patches)
YO suggested he might have been dizzy from going round in circles but I've never heard of this before?
Suggestions much appreciated, but will be ringing vet if he is still the same when YO checks him.
