My NF pony has a strange, coin sized lump on his back leg just above the coronet band to the left slightly. It is very hard and you could poke it all you want and he wouldn't give a ! so I'm a bit confused as its come up overnight

It feels like bone but can't be a displacement or he would be very lame which he isn't, maybe not quite tracking up but fine to ride etc. and the area isn't hot or swollen at all. It can't be down to conformation because his is very near perfect.

I will wait a few days and see what it does but so far it hasn't changed size or shape etc. and its been two days. If it does get worse, obviously I will get the vet out.

Some help would be good, this is also in V and NL :)

Could it be a splint?
I know our ISH has one but just below her knee and you can poke and prod as much as you like, she doesn't care! She's not lame at all, walk trot canter, hard ground, nothing but we've reduced her workload for now and we'll keep an eye on it.

ah just read its the back leg sorry! I don't know if you can get splints there just sounds very similar!

Kellysheroes - yes you can get splints on back legs, usually as a result of the horse striking itself rather than a strain from working.

This lump is just above the coronet so would not be a splint.

A splint crossed my mind but as not on a bone, didn't really consider it so thats out of the question  What about Ringbone or Sidebone??

I'd suggest - if no heat/lameness/pain, that it could just be a reaction to a fly bite. Mine has had a fair few VERY hard lumps that have gone down after a week or so that are fly bites on legs or face where there isn't much flesh.
