A friend at my yard competes at endurance on her 14.2 arab, last week it failed vetting at the end of ride for being slightly lame behind, vet said stone bruise (its barefoot) or muscle strain. Her barefoot podiatrist lady came out and did her feet, def no bruising, and starting to look like its coming from alot higher up, like shes pulled something in hip region. Anyway, all week shes been slightly lame, and stiff in walk-friend took her for 5 min ride done road friday and she came back very lame behind, very stiff. Friday eve I go out into field and horse is now hopping lame in front aswell!!! After much inspection the lameness is in the front foot, no heat but slightly warm, slight digital pulse, the bulbs/heel of the foot it hot. Nothing visible stuck in the foot. Friend panicked that its lami (unlikley I tell her, endurance fit arab, lives in the slimmers paddock all the time), however it is obviously a possibility. Horse on box rest at the mo and on bute, we can't think what could be causing the lameness (not concerned about back end lameness at the mo!) so has anyone got any ideas?? (Vet coming soon).

Sounds like it could be an abcess in her foot. Apparently they are more common in barefoot horses, we had a mare who had two at once (she was barefoot, it was both back feet) the vet couldn't find it but the farrier did.

Yes I do wish she had not ridden her aswell, but not my pony-same with vet not my pony. I'm thinking absess aswell, thats what all the symptoms seem to be saying. Thats interesting about absesses being more common in barefoot horses. Chillidragon I also share your back fixation! My horse is injured at the mo, I have my mctimothy lady coming tues so i think we will ask if she could take a look at the horse. Anyway, thanks for your help!
