Noticed about 2 weeks ago that my horse had a soft fluid lump between his front legs. It was slightly scabby like mud fever .
He has had a lazer hobday about 3 months ago [ which I don't think is related] He had his flu/tet 2 months ago and the vet put the needle in his chest but he was very naughty and struck out and tried to charge forward. The needle fell out and he was then injected in his quarters. This may also have nothing to do with this.
I noticed it a few days after he was clipped. The scabbing disappeared but it grew slowly. It has been very soft and not at all painful. I did speak to the vet about it but she didn't seem worried but said to watch if became hot and painful.
Well this morning it felt larger and I thought I had better get the vet out tomorrow. This afternoon it was wet and the more I massaged it the smaller it became. The liquid does not smell and appears to be clear liquid. Any ideas.
He is in no pain and going well

mmmmm just a few suggestions as i havent a clew do you have hawthorn hedges in your fields a thorn might have spicked him, has he been clipped he might have been nicked and got hair trapped in the cut.

Possibly a haematoma or similar resulting from the needle at vaccine time. It can take quite a while for them to settle out (andseparate - possibly the proteinaceous serum that you are seeing weeping). Not uncommon for horses to get haematomas in that area as there are a lot of blood vessels there - however not sure why it would seem to be getting larger.

Thank you , tonight it was all squishy again but still something there but it is dry again. There is no hole or cut and the serum seemed to come through the whole area. Will keep an eye on it.

Will try but I bred him 14 years ago and could count on one hand how many times I have seen him lie down but understand what you mean. It had grown again today to the size of a big egg and we had to travel to an indoor school to ride and by the time we got there it was all wet again from weeping. It doesn't seem to come from a hole just through the skin again ,no smell just like clear fluid. and no pain at all

Then it's almost certainly a haematoma - the fluid is serous fluid. The fact that it continues to collect - to the point where it's oozing through the skin - suggests to me that he is aggravating it. Try alternate hot and cold compresses to try to encourage circulkation to the area - 3-4 minutes of each, repeated several times in each 'treatment' and at least 2-3 times a day (more would be better if you can manage it.) And look for cause. Is he living out? If in - does he have plenty of bedding?? But my bet would still be he's lying on a foot. Are his shoes a bit long at the heel?? Possibly try a pair of sausage boots on him - might help.

Coould possibly be a clipper graze - a reaction to the clipper oil and possibly a tiny nick that is causing it to swell. Can you manage to poultice it? or at least foment it with hot damp towels to encourage it to open more and drain.
